The Times had a piece today about a wife who gave her husband a package deal including a trip to Kenya. The first part was a run with Richard Kiplagat. (He’s a very good Kenyan runner who ran for Iona College and presumably frequented our trails (including the one in the photo above). He was second in the NCAA X-C in 2005.

When I was in Dublin some years ago, a mutual friend set me up for a Sunday morning run with Eamonn Coghlan (who is a sponsor of the Rye Derby, Westchester’s top road race; his name is on the shirt). We ran for about an hour on trails near his home in the northern part of the City. What I recall most about it was that there was nothing to recall about it. Running with him was pretty much like running with anyone. I think we chatted about Westchester for much of the time, Rye being his second home. It was its ordinariness that made it special.
